Letters to the Editor Herb/Drug Interactions Dear Editor: I recently finished reading part one of "Recognition and Prevention of Herb-Drug Interactions" in the December issue of Naturopathy Digest. This topic has been rising to the surface more and more in complementary and alternative, as well as allopathic medicine, but does not appear to have been addressed in depth. It is a very important matter to the health of patients, and it should be of paramount concern of a health care practitioner to make their patients feel at ease speaking about it. Patients hesitate in telling their medical doctors about supplements they are taking for fear of criticism, and I imagine patients of CAM practitioners withhold similar information about their allopathic prescriptions as well. As Dr. Chen mentions: "Some questions posed by Western health care practitioners or patients are difficult to answer quickly with documented specifics." Perhaps the herb/drug interaction issue will help facilitate a symbiotic relationship between CAM and traditional disciplines. Kudos to Naturopathy Digest for taking the initiative in educating your readers on the subject. I look forward to reading future installments in this series. Andrew Turner Good Work Dear Editor: Congratulations on the success of Naturopathy Digest. It is a VERY important contribution to the profession. Michael T. Murray, ND
