Mea Culpa
By Peter Crownfield, executive editor
There seems to be some confusion regarding Naturopathy Digest's mission within the naturopathic profession. Our mission is clearly to provide news and information that will help this profession grow and flourish.
Our intent is to support the naturopathic medical profession and help it reach its full potential.
Our original approach was to be very inclusive. Our belief is that educating providers will ultimately result in better care for patients.
Unfortunately, we were not completely aware of the significant educational chasm that exists between those who have graduated from CNME-accredited colleges and those who have not. And while we still believe strongly in the importance of continuing education, we have come to recognize that providing information to providers who lack an essential scholarly foundation does little more than provide the appearance of credibility where it has not been earned.
To the extent that this has been the case, we apologize to the profession.
Naturopathy Digest believes in being open and transparent. That is why you are given a circulation breakdown in every issue. We are in the process of verifying that every single naturopathic doctor in our circulation database is either licensed or has graduated from a CNME-accredited college.
Thanks to a number of organizations, we are well on our way to verifying every recipient. We intend to personally e-mail, mail or phone everyone whose academic/professional credentials we are unable to verify any other way. (Please let your staff know that we may be calling to verify your educational information.) Compared to our January issue, we have eliminated 2,683 individuals who did not meet our requirements to receive the publication.
We are committed to restricting our circulation to only naturopathic doctors who are licensed and/or graduates of CNME-accredited colleges, as well as students from CNME-accredited programs and companies that support the naturopathic medical profession. We will continue to present the exact number of verified doctors who receive the publication in each issue of ND.
This is your publication. The pages of each issue are intended to provide naturopathic doctors with information that helps support and advance your practice and the profession. To that end, we encourage original article submissions related to any clinical, research or patient care aspect of your practice. We also encourage continuing input from state and national naturopathic organizations, as well as all CNME-accredited academic institutions.
With knowledge comes power. By sharing your academic and clinical knowledge with like-minded doctors passionate about the naturopathic approach to patient care, you help advance naturopathic medicine as the pre-eminent health care model of the 21st century and beyond.
